Functions in our team

ManagementFor the management is important to keep the overview and maintain balance within the team. They have to take the lead, be the example and act responsibly. There is a vision needed in order to lead the team. The management has to plan very well in order to realize this vision. Within this, facilitating the team is the most important. Each manager has a specific focus area next to their general management tasks. Together they represent all the aspects of the project, being quality, time and money.
Team ManagerAs a team manager you are the face of the team and are end responsible for the team and project. Your main task as a team manager is forming and leading a strong team, therefore you have to be people oriented. You should be able to make difficult decisions, make compromises and motivate people. Lastly it is very important that you always keep the overview and can keep a good balance between time, money and quality.
Chief EngineerThe main responsibility of the Chief Engineer is ensuring the quality of the boat. Next to this you must be able to lead the engineers and chiefs. The Chief Engineer looks at the integration and communication between the departments. To ensure the quality of the boat, knowledge about the entire design and production process is needed. Lastly the Chief Engineer should be strong at communicating so he/she will be able to communicate well with the entire team. A natural leader that is able to make decisions.
Project ManagerThe core task of the Project Manager is to take up the time-aspect of the project. The Project manager is responsible for the planning of the team, and is in charge of allocating human resources to make sure the team works in the most efficient way. Tasks of the Project Manager include setting deadlines, planning ahead and keeping an overview of what needs to be done. You should be organized, confident and able to speak up.
Exposure ManagerThe Exposure Manager is responsible for the professionality of the team both internally and externally. Within the team you are responsible for ensuring internal motivation and good team work, you have the possibility to make the team proud. External means that you will be busy with how to present our team to the outside world, in other words what do we show to the media, partners and fans. But also how you can improve the image of the team and how to reach as many people as possible in order to inspire the world. You will lead the exposure department and together: set up storylines, organize events, keep track of the website, social media, create content and much more.
Financial ManagerThe Financial Manager is responsible for the financial resources, acquisition, and partner relations. The finance related tasks include: making the budget, liquidity planning, being in charge of expenses, book keeping and representing the financial aspects of the project in the management. The acquisition related tasks include: going to events and trade shows, calling and visiting (potential) partners and providing a template and organised structure for the engineers to do sponsoring for their specific parts. The partner relations tasks include: keeping the partners updated, do follow-ups, investing time in events / presentations for partners, etc.
Engineering DepartmentsOur Engineering departments are each responsible for their own part of the boat: frrom designing to producing and testing. The departments will need to work closely together to make sure every piece fits together. There are four departments each with a chief to guide this integration process. The Chief Engineer will overlook this process and help wherever needed.
Department ChiefAs an Engineering chief, you are responsible for a part of the design of the boat. Besides this you will lead your department. The Engineering chief should be both strong technically as well as being strong in management skills. You should be a natural leader with strong communication skills and need to be able to carry the responsibility of the department.
Vehicle Dynamics EngineerVehicle Dynamics is responsible for designing, producing and testing all moving parts in the boat. You make the drivetrain which converts the propulsion of our motor into a rotating propellor. The propeller is attached to the strut. Producing the strut is challenging, because it needs to be thin to reduce drag but also has to fit all the driveline parts inside of it. The end of the strut is razor sharp, which makes our boat more efficient, so we can sail faster, with less energy. VD is also responsible for making our boats fly! They design and build the hydrofoils and height control system that actuates our foils to enable stability.
Hull & Body EngineerAs engineer in the hull and body department you are responsible for the design and production of the hull and internal structures of the boat. You will look at designing a boat with as little drag as possible, while still being able to accommodate all systems required to propel the boat. The internal architecture of all parts in the boat plays a role here as well. Furthermore, the structural integrity of the boat has to be ensured. Making use of finite element software, you will calculate how strong the boat needs to be, while keeping the weight at a minimum.
Electrical EngineerAs an electrical engineer, you and your department are responsible for the logic that powers the boat. The high voltage output of the fuel cell must be managed before it can be used to propel the boat forward. You and the other electrical engineers will design and build systems such as batteries, converters, communication buses, and more to achieve this goal. The electronics department is also responsible for making the "thinking" components of the boat. You will design PCBs and write software for the PCBs to control things like the steering wheel, dashboard, power management and the actuation of the hydrofoils!

As the chief of the electronics department, you will lead your department and you have final responsibility of the integration of subsystems with all the other departments. You make sure every component arrives on time, so your department can work in the most efficient way.

Powertrain EngineerHydrogen is our source of energy for the coming year and the years after. We will use hydrogen to sail, race and even fly with our boat. The powertrain department is working on the design and all components concerning the hydrogen system. This includes the understanding and implementation of the fuel cell in our boat which generates electricity from hydrogen gas. You will have to think about the power management and safety. Besides this, our tank and fuelling system are of great importance: these are the connections from the tank to the fuel cell and the design that enables us to refuel with hydrogen gas. Lastly, the fuel cell generates a lot of heat while we are sailing. Therefore, the hydrogen department is responsible for the cooling system in our boat.
OperationsThe Operations department, is responsible for the professional communication of our team. Together with the financial and exposure managers, you work on the contact with both our partners and our public. You will maintain partner relations and create new relations. You are responsible for informing our public and keeping them up to date. You will also work on spreading our message and inspiring and activating your audience.
External relationsAs part of the external relations team, you will be busy with a lot of partner contact including many calls and emails to partners. First to make agreements and sign contracts, later to solve logistical and design problems that partners can help with. You will be the main contact person within the team for partners and therefore responsible for maintaining good partner relationships. You will also have to work closely with the financial manager to complete the budget for the boat.
ExposureAs part of Exposure, you are responsible for the professional communication of our team. Together with the exposure manager, you work on the contact with both our partners and our public. In this way, you take care of promoting our project, vision and take everyone along with our team’s journey. Your activities can be very diverse. You make visual content like photos and videos, design promotion materials, write articles, have contact with the press, organise the big events during the year (Design Presentation, Boat Launch), manage our social media channels and website, design the wrap of the boat, create exposure during the race and much more.
