In 2020 the race the Solar Boat Team was planning on participating in got cancelled. However they still wanted to demonstrate the innovation and improvements they incorporated to the solar boat design. Therefore they decided to organise their own race.

They organised a race for all the Dutch Solar Boat Teams consisting of 3 challenges.

Endurance challengeThe Solar Boats need to complete as many laps as they can within 2 hours.
Match raceIn this challenge the Solar Boats need to complete a parkour with lots of turns the quickest.
Speed record raceThe team with the fastest boat to complete the course of about 200m in length will win this challenge.

Monaco Energy Boat Challenge - Open Sea Class

The Monaco Energy Boat Challenge is organised by the Yacht Club of Monaco. They aim to be the driving force behind a new vision for yachting and to promote any positive approaches through this unique event. The Monaco Energy Boat Challenge aims to stimulate the creativity of tomorrow’s engineers and the industry to develop propulsion methods using clean energy. “The days of just raising awareness are over – time now for action!” albeit the Yacht Club of Monaco.

16 NM coastal raceThe team with the fastest boat to complete the course of about 16 nautical miles in length will win this challenge.
Manoeuvrability challengeTest the maneuvering capabilities of the team and complete the set course within the least amount of time.
Endurance challengeThe biggest Challenge: sail for 6 hours straight without recharging. The team covering the most distance wins!

Solar Sport One

Solar Sport One is the solar boat race for technicians, dare-devils, young and curious minded, team players and organizational talents.

The race will focuses on sustainability, courage and inspiring each other. Green innovations are sexy and bold. “Sustainability of the earth is not something for the future, but it happens here and now!” albeit the Solar Sport One organisation.

The race is split into 4 parts. Three parts take place in the Netherlands; Purmerend, Gronignen and Leeuwarden. The final race of the year takes place in Monaco.

The team that wins the most point during all 4 part wins the Solar Sport One competition.

Part 1: Purmerend

Frisian Solar Challenge

From the Championships in Akkrum the Frisian Solar Challenge grew. This was a race in which Solar Boats sailed a route similar to the Elfstedentocht (eleven-city tour). This race was seperated into five stages, the fasted overall time to complete all the stages won the race!

NK Akkrum

In the early Solar Boat years the teams competed in the National Championships in Akkrum. This was a race in which Solar Boat Team from all over the Netherlands competed against eachother to compare forces and inspire improvement in solar technology. The championship consisted of 3 races.
